Zwar freut er sich auch \u00fcber das lustige Hotel und die anderen Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten, die London bietet. Aber das Globe Theatre, in dem der gro\u00dfe englische Theatermann William Shakespeare seine ber\u00fchmten St\u00fccke auff\u00fchrte, lockt ihn besonders. Sein alter Professorfreund Armin- Gerd hat sich mit ihm oft \u00fcber den Dichter unterhalten, der so ber\u00fchmte St\u00fccke wie \u201cRomeo und Julia\u201d und den \u201cSommernachtstraum\u201d schrieb. Trotz des Regens macht sich die Reisegesellschaft also auf den Weg zur Bankside auf der anderen Seite der Themse. So hei\u00dft der gro\u00dfe Fluss, der durch London flie\u00dft. Dieser Teil geh\u00f6rte in alter Zeit nicht zu London, denn in der Stadt waren Theaterauff\u00fchrungen nicht erlaubt. Das erz\u00e4hlt \u00a0die nette Reisef\u00fchrerin, die viel \u00fcber das Theater wei\u00df, das fr\u00fcher etwa 200 Meter weiter entfernt stand, weil der Fluss viel breiter war. Nach einem Brand wurde es ganz abgerissen. Im letzten Jahrhundert fanden sich dann Leute, die das Theater nach dem alten Muster wieder aufbauten. Das Theater hat eine \u00fcberdachte B\u00fchne und die Zuschauersitzpl\u00e4tze haben auch ein Dach. Aber der Platz in der Mitte ist frei. Hier standen fr\u00fcher \u00a0die \u00e4rmeren Leute. So ein Theaterbesuch war ein Familienausflug, bei dem man auch im Theater a\u00df, sich unterhielt und den Schauspielern ab und zu eine Bemerkung zurief. \u00dcbrigens standen nur M\u00e4nner auf der B\u00fchne, die auch Frauen darstellen mussten. Ganz sch\u00f6n hart war der Schauspielerberuf damals.. Professor Klugsch rezitiert auf der B\u00fchne den ber\u00fchmten Spruch \u201cTo be or not to be.
